House on a Dune, Bahamas

Reconnect with the spirit of place on Harbour Island—a retreat made for and of the island and available for bookings.

Harbour Island is a relaxed, yet luxurious getaway perched in the surreal cerulean waters of the Atlantic edge of the Great Bahama Bank. In this earnest and timeless place, the architecture of this residence is conceived as simultaneously powerful, yet comfortable; primitive, yet innovative; casual, yet elegant; raw, yet refined. The result is a sensual and sensitive experience, reduced to its essence through the use of elemental forms and sincere materialism and detailing. This private residence establishes a delicate, meditative and mediating space that ushers a transition from lush tropical landscape to wide, languorous ocean.

“We prefer to construct our buildings with the land, where architecture recedes and becomes a frame to celebrate the surrounding nature.”

La Muna, Aspen

Experience a deep sense of place at La Muna on Red Mountain—a retreat crafted by Oppenheim Architecture and available for bookings.

This mountain house sits alongside a stream on Red Mountain amongst granite boulders, a forest of aspen, fir, and oak, and a pasture of native wildflowers. Experientially, La Muna is a place for family and friends to connect deeply with each other and with the environment. Windows frame views out across the valley to Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Tiehack, and Buttermilk, as well as the Maroon Bells. Applying the wabi-sabi principles of seeing beauty in patina and imperfection, the architecture uses reclaimed timber, local stone, and metals, alongside other sustainability strategies to create a very low-carbon house sensitive to the colors and textures of the landscape.

“Technology has connected us beyond imagination; yet we have become disconnected from each other and the world around us.”

—Chad Oppenheim
