Metropica

Blending community, lifestyle, and nature, Metropica proposes a new model for urbanizing the suburbs.

Less than one kilometer from Everglades National Park in South Florida, this expansive mixed-use project draws from the best of urban and suburban living. The master plan blends work, live, well-being, community, and commerce. It seeks to balance our increasingly sophisticated and technological lives with people’s need for greater human connection and access to the natural environment.

A compound of ‘metropolis’ and ‘tropical,’ we have designed Metropica to merge the best of the Floridian outdoor lifestyle with high-density living, so life can take place in all its many forms. From gardens and wellness centers to eateries and business spaces, the environment is designed to ignite and support an integrated and active community.

The master plan for the 18-acre site features eight residential towers connected by a podium and a 10-acre central park. A second and more private open space is located on level seven, centered on a 600-foot-long beach club pool with extensive views across the Everglades. Metropica is not simply a place to live, it creates a lifestyle where the outdoors forms a rich part of the daily experience.

Residential towers are positioned for views out to the coastline from Miami to Boca Raton. Balconies around the first residential tower provide a framework for nature—shadow boxes that break down the scale of the high-rise, showcase the view, and provide terraces with integrated lattices where residents can tend their own gardens.

We have integrated green façades around the podium to minimize solar heat gain, create a comfortable microclimate, and integrate the tower with its subtropical environment. Gardens invite residents and the public to filter through the site, including small wetland areas that bring the beauty and spirit of the Everglades into the urban realm.
