Panorama Hilltop Retreat
This contemporary re-interpretation of the Dhermi village building vernacular informs the place, brand and business plan for a new destination on this dramatic hillside site.
With the region and nearby villages steeped in Albanian and Greek cultures, our team began by studying the local architecture forms and materials to discover different aspects of their typologies. They were all designed and built in a way that provides comfort, with natural ventilation, specifically the neighboring hill town of Dhermi. While exploring Dhermi, we were intrigued by its massive masonry walls and ingenious shading devices. The landscape plays a major role in forming the town allowing it to completely merge. Buildings are stepped and terraced with the land contours, giving each its private view of the Ionian Sea.
Elements of the retreat were carefully selected and designed to captivate the spirit of the place, allowing it to incorporate with its setting while delivering to guests the highest quality and unforgettable experiences of the place.
Pools and native landscapes help to cool outdoor spaces, while a series of loggias provide shelter, shadow, and movement. As guests move through the spaces of the retreat, contemporary elements, such as a subterranean spa, as well as private and communal infinity pools, reveal the complete nature and character of the hotel.
A village ‘Shesh’ (plaza in Albanian) welcomes guests from the street. A lobby, restaurant, bar and a small chapel all face the square. These social, spiritual and cultural spaces reflect the growing presence of this destination’s profile within the tourism economy. In addition, it provides a wide range of amenities and supporting program, such as a spa, fitness suite, exclusive sunset club, VIP and event spaces, and accommodations. There are 59 hotel keys, including 46 rooms and 13 suites on site, all designed to face the dreamy blue sea views.
