Komune e Parisit
This ambitious urban masterplan project aims to enhance the favored neighborhood in Albania’s capital by improving connectivity, introducing public amenities, incorporating commercial areas, and establishing a spirit of place that reflects the traditions of the region.
The Komune e Parisit Masterplan project, situated in Tirana and strategically located along a major axis connecting the Lana River to the Elbasan Highway, aims to enhance connectivity within the city and the neighborhood. By elevating the residences and creating visual and physical corridors, the design establishes a porous urban fabric that draws people in, offering glimpses and multiple pathways to the adjacent city.
Understanding Tirana’s spirit and honoring its legacy were fundamental to the design approach. The local urban fabric and the unique characteristics of Tirana’s streetscapes were studied, identifying active ground floors, earthy tones, and green spaces as essential elements to ensure the proposal felt inherently part of the place.
In line with local traditions, we incorporated commercial areas within the first two stories of the development. These areas require less space and allow for a more porous massing. Additionally, the project includes outdoor social spaces spanning multiple levels, challenging traditional definitions of urban parks.
Inspired by traditional Albanian crafts and motifs, a family of facade patterns were developed, each featuring concrete skins with geometric openings. These contemporary interpretations diffuse direct sunlight, reduce noise pollution from the main road, and create loggias and comfortable balcony spaces for tenants to enjoy private outdoor areas.
The design for the Komune e Parisit Masterplan thoughtfully blends tradition and modernity, creating a vibrant, connected community that respects Tirana’s rich heritage while looking to the future.
