ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST – Inside the Hollywood Home of Director Michael Bay

Feats of architectural derring-do have long had their place in the hills and canyons of Los Angeles, where gravity-defying midcentury landmarks such as John Lautner’s Sheats-Goldstein residence and Pierre Koenig’s Stahl House test the structural and aesthetic limits of cliffside living. New to that esteemed lineage is the recently completed home of Michael Bay, a filmmaker known for action-packed big-budget blockbusters like the Transformers series,Armageddon, and Pearl Harbor. From such a maestro of spectacular effects one might expect a place […]

You can call it a comeback. The new development side is also exciting; in Greater Downtown Miami alone, nearly 18,000 units across 70 towers have been proposed since 2011, according to CraneSpotters. Here’s what else is happening. Lauderdale luxe […]

But the house does have a price: It is hitting the market for $36 million. It is a big number. A few months ago, an oceanfront home in Golden Beach set a record when it sold for $22.5 million. But that house was built in the early 2000s, while this one will be new construction, said Oren […]

INTROSPECTIVE MAGAZINE – Oppenheim’s Time

An architect with offices in Miami and Basel, Switzerland, would seem to have two very different points of reference — sunny shores one week, mountain views the next. Yet Chad Oppenheim, designer of muscular-but-playful modernist buildings all over the world, is equally comfortable in both realms (he has a house in Aspen, too) and has carved out something of a specialty when it comes to highlighting views and experiences of the outdoors in its many disparate forms. “We’ve got a tremendous desire to […]

Ilona, Oppenheim’s Swiss-born wife, prepares homemade granola in the flower-filled kitchen while 6-year-old son Hendrix and 3-year-old daughter Liloo shriek with delight in the backyard. Despite looming rain, the kids teeter atop surfboards in the 60-foot swimming pool as towering coconut palms sway in a tropical breeze. “It’s hard to believe that you can […]
