CULTURED – The Silent Type

For Chad Oppenheim, conquering Miami was just the beginning. Armed with curiosity and conviction, the gifted architect is charting new territory with projects that explore a poetic sense of place. Miami has become the kind of architectural playground other cities dream of being. It’s key characteristics – year round sunny skies, ultra wealthy clientele, and an insatiable hunger for luxury – perfectly position it to attract everyone and anyone in the field, from Jeanne Gang to Herzog & de Meuron. […]

WSJ – A Not-Yet-Built Home Near Miami to List for $36 Million

Construction hasn’t yet begun on an oceanfront spec house in Golden Beach, Fla., an affluent residential enclave about 30 minutes from downtown Miami. But the house does have a price: It is hitting the market for $36 million. It is a big number. A few months ago, an oceanfront home in Golden Beach set a record when it sold for $22.5 million. But that house was built in the early 2000s, while this one will be new construction, said Oren […]

INTROSPECTIVE MAGAZINE – Oppenheim’s Time

An architect with offices in Miami and Basel, Switzerland, would seem to have two very different points of reference — sunny shores one week, mountain views the next. Yet Chad Oppenheim, designer of muscular-but-playful modernist buildings all over the world, is equally comfortable in both realms (he has a house in Aspen, too) and has carved out something of a specialty when it comes to highlighting views and experiences of the outdoors in its many disparate forms. “We’ve got a tremendous desire to […]

NEW YORK POST – Inside The Home of Miami’s Hottest Luxe Condo Designer

The skies may be cloudy, but the vibe couldn’t be sunnier at Villa Allegra, the modernist Miami home of architect Chad Oppenheim and his young family. Ilona, Oppenheim’s Swiss-born wife, prepares homemade granola in the flower-filled kitchen while 6-year-old son Hendrix and 3-year-old daughter Liloo shriek with delight in the backyard. Despite looming rain, the kids teeter atop surfboards in the 60-foot swimming pool as towering coconut palms sway in a tropical breeze. “It’s hard to believe that you can […]

TEDxNYIT – Chad Oppenheim

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Recent advancements in communications technology has made us the most connected species to roam the earth; yet we are also the most disconnected to the world in which we live. Architect Chad Oppenheim explores strategies to re-connect with our habitat through designs for home and life.

WSJ – Chad Oppenheim’s Minimalist Miami Home

The sleek, austere living/dining room of this Miami home belies the playful pandemonium that goes on here. On the sofa: jumping and dancing. Bicycles, scooters and games of tag pass through here. And when a rainy day befell a toddler’s birthday party last year, the two ponies clomped inside for rides. Chad Oppenheim, the home’s owner and architect, explains that while most of the furnishings are limited-edition, museum-quality pieces, the space, which he calls “the everything room,” revolves around family—himself, […]

NEW YORK TIMES – Redefining a Beach Share

A few years ago, Chad Oppenheim, an architect in Miami, received a run-of-the-mill phone call from a potential client. Debby Lawn, a retired elementary school counselor from San Francisco, had recently bought waterfront property in the Bahamas with her husband, Richard, a semiretired molecular biologist, and the couple, who are in their 60s, wanted Mr. Oppenheim to design a house there… Article PDF: NYTimes_Redefining_a_Beach Share

ARCHITIZER – Chad Oppenheim on Rio, Riding the Real Estate Market, and Keeping it Real

Speaking with architect Chad Oppenheim is like encountering a long-lost friend: commonalities instantly surface, conversation quickly transitions to banter, and professional shop talk blurs with personal anecdotes. In a sea of dogma-driven designers, the Miami-based Oppenheim stands out for his candid cadence, but most of all, for his compelling projects in locations as diverse as Brazil, Jordan, and his very own home in Biscayne Bay, where he recently stole a moment away from the Oppenheim Architecture + Design office to speak […]

Both Lozano and Diaz said that their education at The FIU College of Architecture + The Arts prepared them for their duties at Oppenheim Architecture+Design. “Florida International University helped me develop a keen understanding […]
